What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin pieces of porcelain or ceramic placed over the tooth to create a natural look while providing strength and resilience at the same time. The shape and size of the veneer is measured accordingly to ensure that it’ll match with the other teeth and be able to blend in perfectly so that no one would ever know that you’re wearing veneers.
How Are Dental Veneers Used?
There are a number of reasons why more and more people are requesting ceramic and porcelain veneers. They can be used to cover dark stains, close gaps, make teeth even in length, and most importantly, create a uniform-looking smile. This way, you’ll have a near perfect set of teeth, and a beautiful smile like that of Hollywood stars.
Most people don’t know that their favorite celebrity wasn’t born with the amazing smile they see them with in the media and in their favorite magazines. In fact, most of them underwent this exact same procedure. The great thing about veneers is that even you get the same procedure done in order to dramatically improve your smile.
Dental veneers also have another purpose – they can be used for restorations. For example, when teeth become chipped, cracked, or broken, a veneer an be used to restore the tooth, and make it fully functional again, as well as looking perfect. Basically, as long as the tooth structure is intact, it’s highly possible to restore the appearance of your tooth through this procedure. And as you would expect, after the procedure is done, not only will your smile look amazing, but you’ll be able to eat normally without any issues.
How The Procedure Is Done
The procedure starts with our veneer specialist taking an impression of your teeth. This allows them to create a natural-looking veneer in the lab. It usually takes around a week or more in order to ensure the veneer matches the exact shape, color and size of your teeth.
The next step is placing them over your teeth. The process starts with your dentist prepping the tooth, which involves removing a small portion of enamel. This is essential because it would allow the veneer to lay flat on the tooth and in line with the gum tissue. After your tooth has been prepared, a temporary veneer would be placed using a removable glue. This is done so that you can get used to wearing veneers. While your temporary veneer is on, it’s important that you take excellent care of it; that means you have to take extra care when brushing your teeth and stay away from all hard foods. Since the glue is removable, moving it is often easy, so be extra sure to stay away from hard and tough food.
Once the permanent veneers are ready, you’ll receive a call from our office and we’ll schedule an appointment for you. Dr. Bassiri will remove the temporary veneer and replace it with the new veneer that fits perfectly. Usually, a water-based solution is used to attach it first and see how it looks. This allows us to perform the needed adjustments, if there are any that need to be done. After that, your tooth is thoroughly cleaned and the veneer is permanently bonded to it.
We are proud to say that the vast majority of our patients are very satisfied with the results. As you will see, after the procedure, you can start flashing your million-dollar smile again!
What to Expect After the Procedure
Expect for your teeth to feel a little sore for a couple of days, which is absolutely normal and shouldn’t be a cause of concern. During this time, you can take pain medication to reduce the pain, and a cold compress to reduce the swelling, if there happens to be any. Also, be mindful of what you eat for a couple of days, as we highly recommend you only eat soft foods. Overall, although there’s a recovery time with porcelain veneers, rest assured that the procedure is definitely worth it.
The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Those who undergo this procedure love how their teeth look afterward, as it truly gives them that perfect smile. Which is why veneers really are a perfect solution for those who have lost their confidence, because of how their teeth originally looked. In addition to that, the good thing about getting dental veneers is that it’s a natural procedure and you don’t have to undergo any type of invasive surgery. Veneers are also made to match and blend with your other teeth, giving it a natural look. No one would suspect that you have had cosmetic dentistry done on your teeth. Let’s also not forget that because these are either made of porcelain or ceramic, you don’t have to worry about staining at all as these two materials are stain-resistant. Which means you can indulge as much as you want on your favorite cup of Joe or as many glasses of wine as you want, while still maintaining a beautiful smile.
The Downside of Veneers
With the good comes the bad. Just like with any other cosmetic procedure, you’ll experience some sort of discomfort during installation. This shouldn’t stop you from getting veneers though. We do our best to ensure that our patients stay comfortable throughout the procedure. However, since the process could take several weeks, you should also be prepared to do your part and be careful with what you eat and the physical activities you engage in.
Some insurance companies don’t cover this procedure. However, we’ll still provide you the assistance you need to receive the dental care you want, regardless how much your insurance company is willing to pay. Rest assured that we also offer a wide range of financing solutions for you to choose from. Our goal is to make dental veneers something that is not financially out of reach for our patients.
