Dentures

So you need Dentures?

Dentures are a type of prosthetic that can enhance your smile by replacing section or full arch of teeth that are missing. There are typically two main types of dentures: full and partial. Partial dentures only replace a few teeth, so they’re ideal for patients who still have most of their natural teeth. Full dentures are a better fit for patients who are missing all of their teeth on at least one complete arch. You can even choose implant-supported dentures, which use dental implants to keep the plates securely in place.

Why would you need or want Dentures?

Dentures enhance your smile and fill in areas where teeth are missing. You may be missing teeth because of advanced periodontal disease, severe decay, or as a result of some type of trauma to the face. If teeth need to be removed prior to having dentures made, extractions will be done and given time to heal. Dentures don’t just affect the way your smile looks, they can affect the appearance of your entire face. If you are missing a large number, or even all of your natural teeth, your cheeks may cave in, giving a sunken-in appearance. Dentures work to fill out the cheeks and lips, giving you a youthful look.

What are the benefits of wearing Dentures?

Dentures can prevent your face from sinking in due to missing teeth. Dentures are incredibly durable, and can withstand quite a bit of pressure. They typically last anywhere from five to seven years, and can be repaired if they break or crack. After seven years, you’ll need to have a new plate made for you. Dentures are made using durable materials, and are created to look as natural as possible. When fitted and worn correctly, no one will even be able to tell that you’re wearing a prosthetic.

What can you expect during the Denture procedure?

Having dentures made is easy and straightforward, and done at a time when it’s most convenient for you. For many patients, they’ll need to have some teeth removed before the denture can be made. Once the surgical sites have healed you will come back into the office, and have impressions taken of your mouth. The impressions are used by lab techs to create a special denture plate for you. We provide the lab techs with a color match, so that they can match the color of the prosthetic to the existing teeth in your mouth. The denture is then shipped back to our office where we’ll fit it to your mouth. In some cases, the denture is a perfect fit, and needs no adjusting. Most dentures need to be slightly adjusted to provide patients with a comfortable, sturdy fit. It’s important to keep your dentures clean when they’re not being worn to prevent them developing odors caused by bacteria. If your denture breaks or cracks at any time, or if a tooth falls off, it can be repaired quickly.
