What exactly is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry involves the use of sedative medications that put you partially or fully to sleep during procedures. Many patients benefit from sedation dentistry, because it makes their treatment more comfortable and reduces anxiety related to treatment. Sedation may be required if more complicated work is necessary. Sedation dentistry is sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, especially to pediatric patients. For patients who have difficulty sitting still in the dental chair to have work done, sedation is beneficial to their safety and comfort.

There are several different types and levels of sedation, so during this appointment we’ll determine what is best suited to your needs. We can help to answer any questions you may have regarding the procedure, and what to expect during and after sedation is administered.
What can you expect with Sedation Dentistry?
The first step is having a consult with us to determine what type of sedation you want or need. You will then be scheduled to come in for your appointment, and the sedation of your choosing is administered. For pediatric patients, we will discuss with you the options available to your child, and will need permission from you to administer it to them. For most sedation, you will be taken to a recovery room following the procedure, where you can take as much time as needed to wake up. It is recommended that you have a loved one or friend bring you home after the procedure, because it is unsafe for you to drive following sedation, even if you feel relatively awake after it has worn off.
